The Sarangi is a bowed string instrument embodying the spirit of Nepali folk music, with a distinctive mellow sound. Played with a curved bow — and uniquely, fingered with the nails — its melodies traditionally accompany 'Gaine' singers of the Gandharva community, narrating historical events, social issues and everyday life. This handcrafted professional instrument (tuned to G) was documented and recorded for the DHASH project.
